Opening Prayer

Gather as a family or individually. Light a candle and place a glass of water (or wine) nearby as a reminder of the miracle.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

O Jesus,
who at Cana in Galilee revealed Your glory
by changing water into wine,
transform our ordinary lives
into signs of Your abundant grace.
Through the intercession of Mary, Your Mother,
grant us whatever we need to do Your will.
Who live and reign for ever and ever. Amen.

Scripture Reading

Read slowly and prayerfully:

John 2:1–11 (The Wedding at Cana)
“On the third day there was a wedding in Cana… When the wine ran short, the mother of Jesus said to him, ‘They have no wine.’ … Jesus told them, ‘Fill the jars with water.’ … When the headwaiter tasted the water that had become wine… Jesus did this as the beginning of his signs in Cana in Galilee and so revealed his glory, and his disciples began to believe in him.”

Isaiah 25:6 (The Lord’s Feast of Rich Food and Choice Wines)
“On this mountain the Lord of hosts will provide for all peoples a feast of rich food and choice wines, juicy, rich food and pure, choice wines.”

Reflection

The third great manifestation of Epiphany is the Wedding at Cana — Jesus’ first public miracle, where He reveals His divine power and glory.

Cana reminds us that Jesus enters our everyday celebrations — marriages, family gatherings, ordinary moments — and desires to bring greater joy. When we invite Him in (often through Mary’s prompting), He transforms what is lacking into overflowing grace.

Questions for Personal or Family Reflection

  1. Where in my life is there “no wine” — lack of joy, hope, or love? Have I brought this need to Jesus through Mary?
  2. Like the servants at Cana, am I willing to “do whatever He tells me,” even when His instructions seem ordinary or puzzling?
  3. How can I make room for Jesus to work miracles of grace in my daily life and relationships?

Practical Activities for Catholics

  1. Entrust a Need to Mary
Write down one area of your life where you feel “the wine has run out.” Place it near your prayer space and pray a Hail Mary, asking her to present it to Jesus.
  2. Transform Water into “Wine”
Fill a glass with water and pray over it, thanking Jesus for turning ordinary things into sources of grace. Then drink it mindfully as a reminder of His abundance.
  3. Sing Together
Sing “Ave Maria” in gratitude for Mary’s intercession, or a joyful hymn like “Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee.”
  4. Act of Charity
Bring joy to someone today: share a meal, send an encouraging message, or celebrate a small blessing with someone who needs cheer.
  5. Closing Prayer – Prayer at Cana
    Lord Jesus,
You revealed Your glory at the wedding feast of Cana
by turning water into abundant, choice wine.
Come into the ordinary moments of my life.
Through Mary’s intercession, supply whatever is lacking.
Transform my heart, my relationships, my work
into signs of Your kingdom’s joy and love.
May my life, like the best wine saved for last,
reveal Your glory to those around me.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us now and at the hour of our death.
    Amen.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

May Jesus fill your life with His abundant joy today.
